A Cryptex is a portable cylindrical vault that can contain small items or a message on a scroll of paper.

The name Cryptex is taken from the words CRYPTology and codEX.

The Cryptex was first imagined by Dan Brown for his intellectual thriller  “The Da Vinci Code”.  In his novel, Dan Brown accredited the invention of the Cryptex to Leonardo Davinci.

The Cryptex is opened by turning several external dials until the correct letters line up along the code line.  Once aligned, the inner and outer chambers are free to slide apart.

The Cryptex was used to secure a scroll of papyrus paper that contained the secret location of The Holy Grail.

Within the inner chamber of the Cryptex was a small vial of vinegar.  Any attempt to force open the chamber would break the glass vial allowing the vinegar to destroy the papyrus before the secret could be read.

There are 6 rotating rings on the outside.  Each ring contains all 26 letters of the English alphabet. There are no blank spaces, numbers or symbols on the dials.
